A note at the end of vol.4 explains that the author was unable "to condense all his matter within the compass of the four volumes first proposed", hence a fifth volume.
The misspelling of "author" in the imprint occurs only in vol.1.
Vol.2 is dated 1766, vol.3 1768, vol.4 1769, vol.5 1770.
