George Eliot - A Very Large Brain
In this ten minute podcast, Dr Catherine Brown discusses George Eliot's intellectual prowess and identifies Eliot as an avid reader in English, French, German, Greek, Latin, and Hebrew.
This short lecture discusses several of Eliot's major works, and draws attention to the apparent contradiction that Eliot, despite having written an inditement criticizing sentimentality in women's fiction, seemed to write novels containing silly female characters.
